Early honey 500g

11,99 €

23,98 € / kg

Freshly harvested honey straight from the city of Herne, specifically the Horsthausen neighborhood. The jar contains only what the bees gathered during the early months (Feb–May). Please note that the honey’s consistency will naturally change from liquid to solid over time during storage. This is not a sign of reduced quality, but rather a natural process, since no artificial additives have been mixed in to prevent it! If you’d like to enjoy this honey in its liquid form again, simply warm it in a water bath at 40 degrees with the lid open, stir it after a short while, and it will be liquid again! All the ingredients and flavors remain intact!

Description

Early honey 500g

Our urban honey Frühtracht Honig 500g from the Horsthausen district is a real all-rounder with high quality: it is a healthy taste experience on its own or as a sweet spread and is an excellent addition to sweet and savory dishes. Urban beekeeping has also developed into a forward-looking trend in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to experts, unlike many rural areas, urban habitats are currently much better suited for the Western honeybee, Apis mellifera. Thanks to the lush and diverse vegetation, Herne offers an abundant food supply for the hardworking honeybees. We have therefore decided to offer honey specialties from Herne produced by our Apis mellifera carnica —a subspecies of the Western honeybee.

500g of indulgence you can feel good about

Our honey from Herne is entirely locally sourced and is produced through a labor-intensive, handcrafted process. Due to the lush natural surroundings and the variety of flowers, we offer it exclusively online. From the beehive, the hardworking bees travel within a flight radius of three to five kilometers. There, they collect high-quality nectar from places such as flowering balconies, tree-lined avenues, fallow fields, rooftop terraces, gardens, parks, courtyards, and traffic islands. Another advantage is that it’s generally much warmer in cities. Honeybees remain active for much longer, and honey yields are higher compared to rural apiaries. Additionally, living conditions for bee colonies are better in urban areas. Here, few to no pesticides are sprayed, and the food supply is secure. Furthermore, you don’t need to worry about exhaust fumes or fine particulate matter pollution. This is because bees are able to filter these pollutants out of the honey.

Honey bees are the new pets

Along with cattle and pigs, bees are among the most important livestock. Unfortunately, the number of bee colonies is falling steadily. The reasons for the acute bee deaths are possibly the widespread use of pesticides, monocultures and the introduction of the Varroa mite . To counteract this development, the idea of setting up an urban apiary in Wanne-Eickel was born. In the meantime, our project has been crowned with success and the yield has become so large that we can market our original Frühtracht honey 500g online.

Environmental education made easy

With the purchase of every single glass you support regional kindergartens and elementary schools. We take children and educators into the fascinating world of honey bees. Bees are important to most of our diverse ecological systems. Both wild and honey bees are threatened in their habitats. It is important to us to introduce children to the fragile world of small pollinator insects.

In an informative, playful and creative way, the children not only learn a lot about the biology of bees and their way of life. You will also learn what importance bees have for us humans, to what extent we benefit from their pollination and where we can help so that there will soon be more flowering habitats for wild and honey bees again.

In order to meet the requirements of teachers and educators as well as children of different ages, €1 is invested in the development of these project days through the sale of a 500g jar of honey from the city of Herne, in order to promote bees in the long term.
